Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What's the Difference?

September 1, 2026 Margie Cleaning Service

When you request a quote, we'll usually ask whether you're looking for a regular cleaning or a deep cleaning. Here's what the difference actually means.

A regular cleaning — what we call general house cleaning — is about maintenance. Counters, sinks and stovetops wiped; toilets, tubs and showers cleaned; surfaces dusted; floors vacuumed and mopped; beds made and trash taken out. It keeps a home consistently clean from one visit to the next.

A deep cleaning goes after build-up. That means baseboards and door frames, light switches, soap scum and hard-water spots in the bathroom, inside the microwave and oven, window sills and blinds, and the areas behind and under furniture. It takes more time, because it reaches the places regular cleaning skips.

Book a deep clean when you're starting recurring service for the first time, when a home hasn't been professionally cleaned in a while, before hosting family for the holidays, or when opening or closing a shore house for the season.

After a deep clean, regular visits are faster and more effective, because they're maintaining a clean home rather than fighting months of build-up. That's why many of our clients start with one deep clean, then move to a weekly or bi-weekly plan.
